2015 Hospital Hill Run Foundation Grant awarded to Girls on the Run Kansas City.
In spring 2015, Hospital Hill Foundation awarded Girls on the Run Serving Greater Kansas City a grant in the amount of $20,000. The funding will be used for scholarships for girls to participate in the life-changing Girls on the Run program.
Girls on the Run is a non-profit program with a mission to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. Girls on the Run believes every girl should be given the opportunity to participate regardless of their ability to pay. Grant funding helps to underwrite the cost of program supplies, curriculum, liability insurance, snacks, program shirt, end of season 5k registration and memento, 5k finisher medal, coach training, and staff support. Currently, Girls on the Run Serving Greater Kansas City offers scholarship funding to 45 percent of girls in the program each season. Girls who attend schools with a federal free and reduced lunch rate above 70 percent are automatically provided full team sponsorship. Girls on the Run also offers individual scholarships to girls at schools that do not qualify for the full team sponsorship. During the registration process, parents have the ability to request a full program scholarship based on their family need. We do not turn any girl away; all scholarship requests are fulfilled.
2015 saw record growth for Girls on the Run Serving Greater Kansas City. Now serving in 14 counties, program participation has increased 78% in the past three years.
